CD Projekt Red Partners With Modder Behind The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project for Upcoming Remaster

CD Projekt Red is teaming up with modder HalkHogan to integrate the popular HD Reworked Project directly into The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, launching this September.

During Gamescom Opening Night Live, CD Projekt Red officially announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, promising modernized combat, refined traversal, and a massive visual overhaul. Polygon reports that a significant portion of those graphical upgrades will come directly from the community, as the studio has officially partnered with HalkHogan, the creator behind the legendary HD Reworked Project. The updated version is scheduled to launch on September 29 for PC, current generation consoles, and the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2, arriving as a free upgrade for existing owners.

For years, the HD Reworked Project has served as an essential download for PC players, completely revamping thousands of textures, models, and shaders across the Continent. HalkHogan confirmed in an update on Nexus Mods that their work is now fully integrated into the official release, meaning separate texture mods will no longer be necessary for players jumping back into Geralt's boots. This collaboration highlights a growing trend of major studios bridging the gap between official development teams and talented community creators.

Alongside the remaster, CD Projekt Red also teased a brand new expansion titled The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, which is slated to arrive in 2027 and marks a final farewell to this era of the franchise. By combining community-driven visual passion projects with free upgrade paths and new story content, the studio is giving both veteran fans and newer players on cloud and console a compelling reason to revisit one of modern gaming's defining RPGs.
