Pokemon Go is celebrating World Space Week with a surprise in-game event featuring a rare astronaut Pikachu obtainable through raids and Timed Research.
Pokemon Go has dropped a surprise World Space Week event running from October 4 through October 10. As reported by Polygon and author Julia Lee, this mini event keeps things simple while introducing a major chase item for collectors. There are no massive gameplay overhauls or wild candy bonuses this time around. Instead, the spotlight falls entirely on a brand new costume variant, giving players a chance to add an astronaut suit Pikachu to their digital rosters.
Securing the cosmic rodent is straightforward, though it requires stepping outside for some raid battles. Players can encounter astronaut Pikachu by defeating one-star raids or by pushing through the event's short Timed Research questline. That research requires winning up to five raids in total, dishing out standard rewards like XP and Stardust along the way alongside the guaranteed Pikachu encounter at the end.
For dedicated collectors, the real motivation is the hunt for a shiny variant. Niantic has not confirmed whether this specific costumed version will return in future cosmic celebrations, so jumping into local raids this week is the safest bet. It is a neat, low pressure excuse to check the app between queues and add a rare piece to your storage before the event wraps up.
