Castlevania Marks 40 Years With Free Mobile Release and Massive Franchise Sales

Konami is giving away the original 1986 Castlevania for free on mobile devices to celebrate the franchise's 40th anniversary, alongside deep digital sales and preparations for next month's new release.

Konami is celebrating four decades of vampire hunting by giving away the original 1986 NES classic for free on iOS and Android. As reported by Eurogamer, players can download the foundational platformer on the App Store and Google Play until October 24, 2026. This mobile drop serves as an appetizer for the upcoming mainline entry, Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, which launches on October 15 across modern consoles and PC.

Developed by Evil Empire, Belmont's Curse stars Rose, the daughter of Trevor Belmont, as she takes on Dracula's forces in 1499. Players eager to jump in can try a playable demo starting October 1st, featuring the entire first chapter with progress that carries over to the full game. Alongside the new release, digital storefronts on Steam and PlayStation are running steep discounts of up to 80 percent off on major collections, including the Anniversary, Dominus, and Advance bundles.

Beyond the games, the anniversary celebration extends to other media with a global orchestral concert series scheduled for spring 2027 in London, Tokyo, and Los Angeles. Fans who cannot make the live shows can already stream the soundtrack for Castlevania: Black & Red across major streaming platforms, making this milestone a comprehensive celebration for both veteran fans and newcomers discovering the gothic series for the first time.
