Capcom Stirs Hope and Frustration as Ace Attorney 7 Remains Missing in Action

Capcom disappointed Ace Attorney fans at Tokyo Game Show by announcing a VR port instead of the heavily requested Ace Attorney 7.

Tokyo Game Show has come and gone once again, leaving long-suffering courtroom drama fans without the long-awaited announcement of Ace Attorney 7. Capcom did manage to spark a flurry of excitement earlier in the week, but the reveal quickly turned to disappointment when the company announced a VR port of Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies instead of a brand new mainline entry. Scheduled for Meta Quest headsets in 2027, the virtual reality version will likely offer a neat level of immersion for investigations, but it does little to quench the thirst of a community that has waited nearly a decade for fresh cases.

As Polygon reported, the last completely new entry in the franchise was 2017's The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve, leaving fans to subsist entirely on ports and collections for years. While the community flooded social media to vent their collective heartbreak over the VR-only reveal, recent sales milestones prove the franchise is still massive. Capcom confirmed that the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy has surpassed 5 million copies sold, pushing the lifetime series total past 15 million.

With the franchise approaching its 25th anniversary on October 12, players are holding out hope that Capcom is saving the real headline for a major showcase. Between the upcoming anniversary celebrations and The Game Awards on December 10, the window for a surprise reveal is still wide open, and the community remains on standby to jump back out of their seats.
