Capcom Confirms Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake Will Stick to Third-Person Perspective

Capcom clarifies that the Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake will use a third-person perspective and draw inspiration from the Resident Evil 2 remake, despite a first-person reveal trailer.
When Capcom dropped the reveal trailer for the Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake during Summer Game Fest, many fans assumed the series was continuing its run of first-person horror. That assumption proved wrong. According to an interview with Eurogamer, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi confirmed that the game will actually use a classic third-person perspective and take its primary gameplay cues from the acclaimed 2019 Resident Evil 2 remake.
The initial confusion makes sense given the four-minute reveal footage. The trailer played out almost entirely through Claire Redfield's eyes as she investigated her brother Chris's Parisian apartment. However, Hirabayashi explained that Capcom is prioritizing respect for the source material while building the remake. The team naturally gravitated toward Claire's side of the post-Raccoon City story after finishing their work on the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes.
Narratively, the game picks up three months after the events of Resident Evil 2. Claire is not yet the hardened government agent fans saw in later titles, though she has picked up some training from her brother. Capcom acknowledges that Code: Veronica has always occupied a distinct place in franchise history, and the development team is treating the project with high levels of care as they adapt it for modern platforms.
