Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Sets August Beta Dates and Introduces Dynamic Map Tech

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has officially locked in its open beta dates for late August, giving players across console, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 a chance to test new mechanics, weapons, and the dynamic Kill Block map system ahead of its October release.

Call of Duty is heading into its next major testing phase. According to a report by Polygon, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is rolling out its open beta next month across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Windows PC, and notably, the Nintendo Switch 2. Players who pre-order the title will secure early access starting August 21, while the completely open beta runs from August 28 to September 1. This upcoming test offers a substantial slice of the game, including nineteen unlockable weapons, classic modes like Search and Destroy, and fresh additions such as 3v3 skirmishes and the heavily anticipated Kill Block map system.

Kill Block is perhaps the most intriguing technical addition for the multiplayer suite. The official blog describes it as a modular battlefield that reconfigures itself using pre-made components into more than five hundred distinct layouts. It forces squads to adapt their routes, sightlines, and strategies on the fly. Beyond standard competitive multiplayer, the game is also bringing back the fan-favorite DMZ extraction mode and setting its single-player campaign in Korea. Digital pre-orders will net players early campaign access one week ahead of the full October 23 launch.

Infinity Ward certainly has some rebuilding to do with this release. The Modern Warfare subseries has faced significant community friction over the past few years, ranging from slower movement mechanics in the 2022 entry to a heavily criticized campaign in Modern Warfare 3. Players have also grown vocal about the influx of chaotic, non-traditional cosmetic skins cluttering lobbies. With Infinity Ward promising to address these core grievances, this upcoming August beta will be our first real chance to see if the developers are listening to the community before the full release.
