Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 detailed its upcoming beta schedule, featuring a surprise campaign mission, new multiplayer modes, and an early look at a brand new Warzone map.
Activision has dropped the full lineup for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 betas, bringing some unexpected additions to the table for players across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and even the Nintendo Switch 2. According to details reported by Cameron Swan at Game Rant, the testing phases will feature a mix of franchise staples and surprising new modes that shift away from traditional multiplayer formulas. The first weekend kicks off with an Early Access period running from August 21 to August 25, immediately following the Call of Duty NEXT showcase.
Players who pre-ordered will get access to nine multiplayer modes, including Team Deathmatch, Domination, and a brand new mode called Kill Block. Alongside six maps, five of which are entirely new to the franchise, Activision is breaking tradition by including a slice of the actual campaign. Beta participants will be able to play the Entrenched mission during both weekends, giving the community an early look at the single player narrative before the full launch.
The second weekend opens up to everyone with an Open Beta running from August 28 to September 1. This phase retains most of the initial content while swapping out the Lotus map for Lithium and introducing two additional multiplayer modes, Hijack and Combat Outpost. The biggest draw for the second weekend, however, is a first look at the brand new Warzone Resurgence map named Zodiac.
For a franchise that traditionally relies on standard multiplayer playlists for its pre-launch tests, rolling out campaign slices and major Warzone drops during a beta signals a much broader promotional and testing strategy for the October release.
