Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Beta First Weekend Steam Numbers Land Strong, But Trail Predecessors

The Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 beta pulled in a solid 115,145 peak concurrent players on Steam during its restricted opening weekend, landing above last year's numbers but trailing past Infinity Ward highs.
The first weekend of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 beta has wrapped up its initial run, offering our first real look at how the massive shooter is pulling in players on PC. According to data tracked via SteamDB, the early testing phase hit a solid peak concurrent of 115,145 players on Steam. It is worth noting that this first weekend was largely restricted to pre-orders and promotional beta codes distributed through content creators, so these numbers do not yet represent the full flood of an open weekend.
While a six-figure peak is impressive for any shooter, the context tells an interesting story for franchise watchers. The Modern Warfare 4 debut sits comfortably above last year's Black Ops 7 beta, which topped out at 100,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, it still falls short of the massive 168,330 concurrent players pulled by Infinity Ward in 2022 during the Modern Warfare 2 beta. Meanwhile, rival giant Battlefield 6 continues to loom large in the background after its own open beta smashed Steam charts with a staggering 521,079 peak concurrent players.
Of course, Steam is only one piece of a massive multi-platform puzzle that includes Battle.net, the Microsoft Store, and massive console communities on PlayStation and Xbox. Infinity Ward has also kept momentum high over the weekend with back-to-back patches introducing new maps, modes, and weapon balance adjustments. As the beta pivots toward its upcoming open weekend and introduces a Warzone sampler, we will get a much clearer picture of how the community is really receiving the latest entry before its official launch.
