The upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta will feature a playable campaign mission for the first time in franchise history, alongside multi-platform testing that includes the Nintendo Switch 2 and a new Warzone Resurgence map.
Activision is shaking up the standard pre-launch routine for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 by dropping a full campaign mission into the upcoming public beta. As reported by Eurogamer, players jumping into the beta sessions running from August 21 through September 1 will get hands-on time with the Entrenched mission, marking a historic first for the franchise. Historically, campaigns stay tightly under wraps until launch day, but this shift signals a clear push to get more of the community engaged with the single-player side of the game, especially alongside the return of campaign early access.
The beta rollout is split across two weekends and covers PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and, in another franchise first, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The first weekend caters to pre-order holders with five 6v6 maps, classic modes, and the debut of the 3v3 and 10v10 variants of Kill Block. Meanwhile, the second weekend opens up to everyone and brings heavy hitters to the test, including the large-scale Ground War mode and an early look at Zodiac, the upcoming Resurgence map for Warzone.
All of this leads up to the digital Call of Duty: Next event on August 21, which will give creators and fans a deeper broadcast look at what is coming before the servers go live. With Modern Warfare 4 officially launching on October 23, this expansive beta gives cross-platform players a massive slice of the upcoming ecosystem to test out early. It is a welcome change of pace for a community that usually only gets to preview the multiplayer sandbox before opening day.
