By Toutatis! Asterix & Obelix Are Back for Some Co-Op Mayhem on PS5 (and More)

Microids is bringing Asterix & Obelix back in a new local co-op game called *Mission Babylon* for PS5, Switch, and PC, promising a humorous romp through ancient history that's perfect for bashing Romans with a mate. It's couch co-op meets classic comic book action, and honestly, what's not to like?

Right, so the chaps over at Microids reckon we're ready for another dose of Gaulish goodness, and fair dinkum, I'm not complaining. They've just announced *Asterix & Obelix: Mission Babylon*, a brand-new local co-op adventure hitting PS5, Switch, and PC in October 2025. Seems like those lovable lunks are back to bash some Romans, and this time, you can bring a mate along for the ride. (Big thanks to Game Rant for being the first to spot this!)

Now, the Asterix & Obelix franchise? It's been kicking around the gaming scene since, well, forever. I'm talking 1983 forever. That's older than my first modem! They've had some hits, some misses, but they've always been reliably... Asterix & Obelix. And in a world of grimdark shooters and endlessly sprawling RPGs, sometimes you just need a bit of lighthearted, cartoonish violence, eh?

But here's the thing: local co-op. Remember that? Sitting on the same couch, yelling at your friend because they keep falling into pits? It's making a comeback, and I reckon it's about bloody time. Games like *It Takes Two* proved that shared-screen shenanigans are still a blast, and the success of viral co-op titles like *Chained Together* shows that players are craving that social, in-person experience. (Or at least, the digital version of it.)

The *Mission Babylon* trailer doesn't give us much – a few snippets of Asterix and Obelix fiddling with contraptions, which looks charming. The Steam page hints at twenty levels across four unique worlds, and promises plenty of that classic Asterix humor. You know, Romans getting whacked, silly accents, maybe a magic potion or two. Sounds about right.

What's interesting is this franchise has been churning out games at a rate of knots, with a new title basically every year from 2018 to 2023. They're clearly onto something, especially in Europe and Australia where the series is pretty massive. Could this new co-op angle be the thing that finally cracks the North American market? Maybe. Or maybe everyone will be too busy playing the *Metal Gear Solid 3* remake. Time will tell, right?

October 2025 is shaping up to be a packed month for PS5. We've got *Gears of War: E-Day*, the aforementioned *Metal Gear Solid 3* remake, and a bunch of other potentially massive releases looming. So, will *Asterix & Obelix: Mission Babylon* stand out from the crowd? I reckon if you're after some good, silly fun with a mate, it might just be the perfect antidote to all the serious gaming going on. Bring on the boar!
