Bungie Pushes Back Destiny 2 Expansion to June for Major Quality-of-Life Overhaul

Bungie has delayed the next major Destiny 2 update to June 2026, pushing back the release to pack in substantial quality-of-life features like expanded tiered gear and armor stats.
Bungie is giving its sci-fi shooter some breathing room. As reported by IGN South Africa, the studio has delayed the next major Destiny 2 update, formerly known as Shadow and Order, by three months. Originally slated for March, the newly renamed expansion will now launch on June 9, 2026. According to developer updates shared on Bluesky, the delay is designed to accommodate large revisions and sizeable quality-of-life additions that the community has been requesting for a long time.
Players can expect the extra development time to go toward several major systems. The refreshed update will now deliver Weapon Tier Upgrading, expand Tiered Gear across all Raid and Dungeon activities, introduce Pantheon 2.0, and bring Tier 5 stats to Exotic Armors. Bungie is currently balancing these live-service updates alongside the impending March launch of Marathon, which undoubtedly stretches studio resources thin as the team tries to manage multiple live projects at once.
To bridge the gap until June, Bungie plans to keep the live game ticking with routine stability patches, Guardian Games in March, and a more frequent Iron Banner schedule in April. While a three-month wait tests the patience of a dedicated player base, focusing on foundational improvements rather than rushing content out the door is usually the right call for the long-term health of any live-service economy.
