Amazon UK is offering a record-low price on the Asus ROG Strix 80+ Platinum 850W power supply, cutting a third off its retail price for builders looking to upgrade.
PC builders looking to assemble a high-performance rig without breaking the bank have a new option on the table. Amazon UK has dropped the price of the Asus ROG Strix 80+ Platinum 850W power supply down to 120 pounds, marking a 33 percent discount from its usual 180 pound retail price. As noted in the original reporting by Rock Paper Shotgun, this discount marks an all-time low for the unit according to historical price tracking, offering a way to bypass the usual premium associated with brand-name hardware.
Moving past the typical naming markup, this unit packs some notable technical features that make it a compelling purchase for modern desktop setups. It carries an 80+ Platinum efficiency rating, a tier higher than the standard Gold certification usually found at this price point. Asus achieves this through the use of Gallium Nitride components, which help reduce operating temperatures and noise levels while maintaining stable power delivery. It is fully compliant with ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 standards, ensuring it can handle the power demands of current graphics cards while keeping cable management clean thanks to its fully modular design.
An 850W capacity hits a sweet spot for many mid-to-high-end configurations, providing enough headroom for modern hardware like upcoming GPU releases without requiring an immediate jump to a four-figure wattage. While top-tier cards might still benefit from a larger power supply to ensure maximum stability under peak loads, this unit easily accommodates standard enthusiast builds targeting high-refresh 1440p or 4K gaming. Backed by a ten-year warranty, it serves as a reliable backbone for players putting together a rig designed to last through several hardware generations.
