Polygon highlights a classic video piece where Brian David Gilbert attempts to decode the complex narrative of Kingdom Hearts and every other story ever told.
For years, players have tried to untangle the notoriously complex lore of Kingdom Hearts ahead of new franchise releases. In a classic piece from the Polygon archives, creator Brian David Gilbert takes that fan obsession to an entirely new level. Instead of just mapping out Disney worlds and heartless mechanics, he sets out to explain every single story in existence.
It is the kind of chaotic, deeply researched comedy that defined an era of video game video essays and creator culture. For anyone who spends hours scrolling through lore breakdowns on YouTube between gaming sessions, this deep dive remains a masterclass in absurdity. It captures the exact feeling of trying to make sense of sprawling multi-game narratives that span decades and platforms.
Whether you are deep into modern live service lore or just nostalgic for classic internet comedy, revisiting this piece is worth the time. It reminds us why we love the sheer ambition of video game storytelling, even when it completely spirals out of control.
