Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive is heading to the tabletop next year

Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive is being adapted into an epic asymmetric board game titled Stormlight: War for Roshar, heading to Kickstarter this fall via Brotherwise Games.

Fans of sprawling fantasy epics have plenty to look forward to on both screens and tables. While author Brandon Sanderson is currently wrapping up the screenplay for his Mistborn film adaptation following a massive partnership with Apple, his beloved Stormlight Archive universe is also making the jump to a new medium. Brotherwise Games has announced Stormlight: War for Roshar, an upcoming asymmetric board game designed by John D. Clair that captures the massive scale of the novels.

The game drops players into the sprawling conflict between the Knights Radiant and the forces of Odium. According to Polygon, players can take control of iconic heroes and villains like Kaladin, Dalinar, Raboniel, and Taravangian. The tactical design supports flexible player counts from one-on-one matches to team dynamics, and sessions are structured around eight rounds dictated by the sweeping movements of the Everstorm and Highstorm. Players must balance upgrading key leaders, recruiting neutral allies, deploying armies, and fighting for control of critical Oathgates to secure victory.

For tabletop enthusiasts, the project is aiming for the same strategic depth found in heavyweights like Star Wars: Rebellion or War of the Ring. The game is heading to Kickstarter this fall ahead of a planned release next year, bringing deluxe components and a miniatures line that will also cross over with the Cosmere Roleplaying Game. Original reporting comes via Polygon, offering a detailed look at how the rich world of Roshar is translating into physical strategy.
