Brandon Sanderson provides the first updates on the Apple TV Mistborn movie and confirms his role as co-showrunner for the Stormlight Archive series.
Fantasy author Brandon Sanderson recently shared fresh updates regarding the massive Apple TV partnership bringing his expansive Cosmere universe to the screen. According to IGN South Africa, Sanderson revealed that the Mistborn movie script is currently sitting at two percent completion on his personal website progress tracker. This comes shortly after the author finished an earlier draft of the screenplay, signaling that pre-production work is officially moving forward.
During a recent YouTube update, Sanderson explained that he spent months pitching Hollywood studios starting in May 2025 before finally securing a home for the adaptation. Beyond the Mistborn film, Sanderson confirmed he will take on a hands-on role as co-showrunner for the planned Stormlight Archive series. This level of creative oversight should offer some reassurance to long-time readers who often worry about beloved book universes getting lost in translation during Hollywood transfers.
For fans who track world-building across multiple mediums, these adaptations represent a massive expansion of the Cosmere into mainstream entertainment. Sanderson noted that he plans to resume work on his upcoming Mistborn Era 3 book in July, balancing his literary output with his new television and film responsibilities.
