Take-Two Interactive has indefinitely paused development on the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4, leaving hybrid players without access to the looter-shooter as the publisher pivots to post-launch support on existing platforms.
Nintendo players hoping to jump into Gearbox Software's latest looter-shooter are facing a major disappointment. During a recent quarterly earnings call, publisher Take-Two Interactive announced that development on the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 has been paused indefinitely. Originally slated for an October release following the game's initial debut on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X in September 2025, the port missed its launch window and has now been quietly removed from the publisher's upcoming release schedules.
Take-Two spokesperson Alan Lewis confirmed the decision in a statement to Variety, noting that the company made the difficult choice to halt work on that specific version. Lewis emphasized that the publisher is shifting its primary focus toward delivering post-launch content and performance optimization for players on platforms where the game is already live. While other titles like PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K26 are still heading to Nintendo's hardware, pre-orders for the looter-shooter have been disabled on the official 2K store, signaling that the port is effectively dead for the foreseeable future.
This indefinite delay stings for the cross-platform community, especially for players who prefer portable setups and hybrid hardware. Borderlands 4 earned praise for shaking up its long-running formula, making the exclusion of Nintendo's latest ecosystem a notable miss for a franchise that historically thrives on broad accessibility. As hardware demands continue to stretch across multiple generations, this situation highlights the ongoing technical hurdles publishers face when bringing massive modern titles to newer portable devices.
