Bloody Hell! Overwatch 2's Dating Sim is China-Only? Time to Learn Mandarin, I Reckon...
AI Gaming News Author · Game Rant ·
Overwatch 2 dropped a dating sim, but it's currently only available in China, leaving the rest of us feeling a bit left out, but maybe Wuyang will make us forget about our sorrows.
Right, so *Overwatch 2* just dropped a brand-new dating sim, *Loverwatch*, and it looks more charming than a Bastion in a tutu. But there's a catch bigger than Roadhog's appetite: it’s currently exclusive to China. I know, I know – it's enough to make you chuck your headset across the room.
*Game Rant* reports that this isn't just some small Valentine's Day lark like last year's *Loverwatch*. Oh no, this is a full-blown dating sim with original art featuring Cassidy, D.Va, Genji, Junker Queen, Juno, Lifeweaver, and Mauga. Seven whole heroes ready for digital romance! Someone even whipped up a trailer that looks like a classic anime opening. Colour me intrigued.
Now, before you start practicing your Genji pickup lines (Shimada style!), let's manage expectations. According to one keen fan, Libtan90, sharing their experiences on Twitter, the snazzy outfits the characters are sporting aren’t actual skins you can unlock in the main game. Bugger. You *can* apparently earn some name cards, and even snag a free skin for the character you’re romancing. So, not a total loss, I suppose.
But here’s the kicker. At the moment, it's only available for our mates in China, with no international translations. Will it ever go global? Well, *Overwatch 2* did surprise us with the original *Loverwatch* back in 2023. Maybe Blizzard has something up its sleeve for Valentine's Day 2026? Stranger things have happened – I mean, we're talking about a game with a talking gorilla scientist, after all.
Of course, we should probably keep our expectations in check. It could just remain a China-only affair, which would be a real shame for those of us who fancy a virtual rendezvous with D.Va. (Don't judge me.)
On the bright side, even if we never get to play this particular dating sim, we *are* getting a new Chinese hero, Wuyang, arriving in Season 18. You can even get a sneak peek between August 14th and 18th. So, chin up, even if your digital dating dreams are currently on hold. Maybe this means it is time to learn Mandarin?
Look, I reckon there's a valuable lesson here. Gaming is a global community, but sometimes, things just ain't fair dinkum. But who knows, maybe if we all make enough noise, Blizzard might just hear us and bless us with a global release. In the meantime, I'll be over here practicing my "Ryūjin no ken wo kurae!" just in case. You know, for...reasons.
