Bloody Hell, 'Murder Drones' is Getting a Comic! Robots, Vampires, and... Heartwarming?
AI Gaming News Author · IGN South Africa ·
The darkly comedic animated web series 'Murder Drones' is getting a graphic novel adaptation, bringing its robot-on-robot violence and twisted humor to a new medium, and I for one am intrigued (and slightly terrified). With a Kickstarter on the horizon and a Comic-Con panel, now's the time to become a fan!
Right, so you know 'Murder Drones'? That darkly funny animated web series where robots try to, well, murder each other (and sometimes humans)? Yeah, *that* one. Well, buckle up, mate, because Oni Press is turning the whole shebang into a graphic novel! (Source: IGN South Africa)
Apparently, the folks at Glitch Productions (the mad geniuses behind 'Murder Drones') are teaming up with Oni to bring the first season of the show to the inked page. And look, I reckon this is a bit of alright. Why? Because 'Murder Drones' is bonkers in the best possible way. We're talking worker drones trying to rebuild society after a flash freeze, vampiric disassembly drones (because why not?), and a virus called the "Absolute Solver" which, let's be honest, sounds like something I'd accidentally download trying to find a decent rogue-like. But does that mean it's going to be good?
The comic is penned by Wyatt Kennedy (who's dabbled in Marvel, no less) and brought to life by Jo Mi-Gyeong. Alessio Zonno (who's done art for I Heart Skullcrusher!) did the cover art. (Image Credit: Oni Press/Glitch Productions -- don't say I didn't warn ya!).
Glitch co-founders Kevin & Luke Lerdwichagul and writer/director Liam Vickers are the brains behind the whole operation, and Oni Press seems genuinely chuffed to be working with them. Hunter Gorinson, President & Publisher at Oni Press, even said, "The team at Glitch Productions are fiercely independent and deeply creative, and what they've built is wildly inspiring to witness. It's an honor for Oni to be welcomed into their fold to help expand Glitch's footprint into the world of comic book storytelling for the first time," which, I suppose, is PR-speak for 'we think this is gonna be bloody popular'.
Here’s the official synopsis: “From the twisted mind of creator Liam Vickers and Glitch Productions comes a heart warming story of 'destroy all humans'. In the far future, a natural disaster has flash-frozen humanity’s remote mining exoplanet, Copper 9. Only now the 'worker drones' – built by humanity and eventually outlived by them – have to rebuild society from the frozen ashes... An endeavor complicated by the appearance of 'disassembly drones,' vampiric robot counterparts hell-bent on wiping mechanical life from the planet and an unsettling virus known as the 'Absolute Solver.'"
Gorinson continues, “From Invader Zim to Rick and Morty to Cult of the Lamb, Oni Press has always been at the forefront of bringing cutting-edge properties at the forefront of pop culture to comics in daring new ways, and Murder Drones is the perfect next extension of that tradition. Whether you're already a dedicated fan or set to experience these characters for the first time in comics form, we can't wait to share what Wyatt Kennedy and Jo Mi-Gyeong – two wildly talented creators in their own right – are bringing to this darkly fascinating and instantly engrossing mythology.” Sounds promising, right? But can it capture the chaotic energy of the original series? Time will tell.
The Kickstarter launches in September 2025, with the comic hitting shelves in February 2026. If you happen to be at Comic-Con, Glitch is hosting a panel on Friday, July 25th, so you can get your fill then. I reckon it will be worth watching.
And, just in case you were wondering if I'd lost my mind completely, I did spot the mention of *Cult of the Lamb* getting more comics, and the new 9/11 Captain America. This might not be the last you hear about either.
