Bloober Team is bringing Layers of Fear: The Final Masterpiece Edition to the Switch 2 on December 19th for $39.99, featuring enhanced visuals, all DLC, and new platform specific controls.
Bloober Team is keeping its momentum going following the critical success of the Silent Hill 2 remake, and the studio is officially bringing its psychological horror showcase to Nintendo's next generation hardware. Layers of Fear: The Final Masterpiece Edition arrives on the Switch 2 eShop on December 19th for $39.99. This release follows the platform launch of the studio's sci-fi horror title Cronos: The New Dawn, cementing Bloober as a major third party presence on Nintendo's new system alongside an unannounced Switch 2 exclusive currently in development.
Originally launched in 2023, The Final Masterpiece Edition is an ambitious undertaking that blends the original two Layers of Fear games, their respective downloadable content, and brand new narrative threads into a single, unified horror experience. Players guide a tortured painter through an ever shifting mansion, explore an avant garde ocean liner as a Hollywood actor, and uncover new story beats through the eyes of a lighthouse bound writer. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the package bundles all previously released content including the Final Prologue chapter while adding hardware specific features like dynamic lighting, HDR, and support for touchscreen and motion controls.
For players looking to round out their portable horror library, this definitive collection delivers a massive amount of surreal, hallucinatory scares. While Bloober Team's earlier catalog sometimes shows its age compared to their modern masterpiece work on Silent Hill, the sheer visual spectacle and disorientating room warping tricks still hold up. As cross platform libraries continue to expand on modern hardware, getting a polished, comprehensive version of these atmospheric thrillers on a portable device is a strong holiday win for horror fans.
