Blizzard Details Vampire Support Hero Doctrine and Big Roster Changes for Overwatch Season 5

Blizzard has detailed the vampire Support Hero Doctrine for Overwatch, showcasing a unique kit focused on health theft, mobility, and team sustain ahead of his Season 5 debut.

Blizzard revealed the full ability kit for Doctrine, the upcoming vampire Support Hero joining Overwatch. Revealed during the BlizzCon opening ceremony, Doctrine is the 54th playable character in the roster and hails from Zimbabwe's Shona tribe with deep lore ties to Doomfist and Talon. As a Survivor subrole Support, Doctrine features passive health regeneration tied to his movement abilities and utilizes the Eternal Scepter to balance mid-range damage with healing. His kit revolves around tactical resource management, using abilities like Shrouded Momentum and Invigorating Drones to control the flow of team fights.

His ultimate ability, Deliverance, deploys a swarm of bat-shaped drones that grant allies overhealth while simultaneously draining the maximum health of enemy players. Players can test out his kit during his ongoing Hero Trial before he officially enters the competitive pool with the launch of Season 5 on October 6. Alongside Doctrine, Season 5 brings major role reworks for Sombra and Roadhog, shifting them to Support and Tank respectively, plus a brand new escort map called Watchpoint Grímsvötn.

Blizzard is also giving returning and active players a nice bonus to close out the current season. Anyone who logs in and plays a match before October 5 can claim a free Mythic Voucher to unlock one of fourteen specific Mythic skins from previous seasons. With the Reign of Talon story arc hitting its narrative climax in Season 5 and another Omnic detective hero scheduled before the year ends, Blizzard is keeping a rapid content cadence that active players will appreciate.
