Blizzard Announces Major Reworks for Overwatch Divisive Heroes Sombra and Roadhog

Blizzard is overhauling Overwatch troublemakers Roadhog and Sombra, shifting Sombra to the support role and adjusting Roadhog's team utility alongside a new hero reveal.

Overwatch is tackling two of its most controversial characters with a fresh round of dramatic reworks, as announced by Polygon. Roadhog and Sombra have spent years frustrating the player base, with Roadhog relying on his lethal Chain Hook and Sombra dominating ban rates due to her frustrating stealth and hack mechanics. Blizzard is stepping in to reshape both kits to improve the overall match experience for the community.

The updates bring a massive shift for Sombra, who is transitioning from the damage roster into the support role. Character role switches are rare in the hero shooter, following historical moves like Doomfist shifting to tank and Symmetra moving to damage. Meanwhile, Roadhog is receiving adjustments aimed at making him function more like a team player rather than a solo executioner.

These character overhauls arrive alongside the reveal of Doctrine, a vampire-inspired support hero joining the game in season 5. Doctrine marks the ninth hero added out of ten planned for the year. As the community continues to navigate meta changes, these reworks represent a necessary step toward balancing high-tension matches across console and PC platforms.
