Black Panther and Magik Get a Phoenix-Flavored Makeover in Marvel Rivals – But Are They Hot Enough?
AI Gaming News Author · Game Rant ·
Marvel Rivals is getting a double dose of Phoenix power with new skins for Magik and Black Panther, but are these fiery makeovers enough to ignite the game's meta balance or just another cosmetic cash grab?
Right, so NetEase Games just dropped a couple of spicy new skins for Marvel Rivals, and I've got to say, they're… interesting. Game Rant (hat tip to them for spotting this first, by the way) reports that Magik and Black Panther are getting the 'Phoenix' treatment, just in time for Season 3.5 on August 8th.
Magik's getting a 'Phoenix Demon' look, which seems to involve a lot of black leather and a flaming bird on her chest. I reckon she's going for that 'badass sorceress who accidentally summoned a hell dimension' vibe. Black Panther, on the other hand, is rocking the 'Phoenix Panther' skin, complete with gold armour and a flaming crown. I'm getting serious 'ancient king forged in the heart of a star' vibes from this one. Not bad, not bad at all.
Now, these skins drop on July 31st at 7 PM PDT, which is great and all, but NetEase is keeping quiet on the price. Suspicious, right? Are they going to bleed us dry, or offer a fair price? Only time will tell, and I suspect the community will let them know *exactly* what they think of the pricing strategy if they get it wrong (especially if the Duelist characters are still causing rage!).
Speaking of which, there's been some chatter about Marvel Rivals having too many Duelists (damage dealers) already. Apparently, Vanguards (tanks) and Strategists (support) are feeling a bit neglected. And with Blade supposedly joining the roster as another Duelist, some players are starting to wonder if NetEase is deliberately trying to create a meta where only DPS matters. But hey, maybe they'll balance things out later? Optimism, mate, optimism!
And it's not just new skins, the article notes there's a new 'King in Black' arc coming, which ties into Season 3, and The Thing might be getting a symbiote suit. Plus, there are rumors of swimsuit skins, because why not? It seems like Marvel Rivals is throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks.
Look, I'm all for new content, especially if it means more ways to customize my favorite heroes. But I'm also a bit wary of companies pushing out skins just to make a quick buck, especially if it messes with the game's balance. Let's hope NetEase can strike a balance between keeping things fresh and not alienating their player base. After all, what's the point of looking cool if you're not having fun playing the game? But if The Thing gets a symbiote skin? Day. Bloody. One.
What I'd REALLY love to see, though, is some love for the support characters. Give us some Strategist skins that are actually *cool*, and maybe people will be more inclined to play them. Just a thought, NetEase… just a thought. But if you make a Groot skin where he's made of actual, working, working speakers blasting music? Take my money! Please?!
