Beyond Good and Evil 2 Is Still Breathing as Ubisoft Adds a Key Writer

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still in active development at Ubisoft, adding a veteran writer from the Assassin's Creed team to help steer its narrative forward.

Industry sagas rarely drag on quite like Beyond Good and Evil 2, but the ambitious sci-fi project is officially refusing to die. Eighteen years after its initial reveal and a decade past its E3 2016 resurrection, the game is still moving forward behind the scenes. According to IGN South Africa, Ubisoft Bordeaux lead writer and associate narrative director Rik Godwin recently joined the team in a consulting role. Given that Ubisoft Bordeaux just wrapped up major narrative work on Assassin's Creed Shadows, bringing that experience over to Montpellier could provide the steady hand this massive sequel needs.

This addition is just the latest sign of life for a game that has tested the patience of the community for nearly two decades. Ever since creative director Fawzi Mesmar took the helm, development has steadily coalesced around a clearer vision. The project even managed to survive Ubisoft's recent corporate restructuring and project cancellations that claimed other major titles, cementing leadership's commitment to crossing the finish line.

While we still have no release date and plenty of questions about how the final product will look in today's landscape, surviving this long counts as a minor miracle in modern game development. Character cameos in the recent 20th Anniversary Edition proved the universe is still relevant to players, and fresh talent keeps joining the ranks. Whether the long wait will ultimately pay off remains to be seen, but the machine is still running.
