Ubisoft has launched a new hiring wave at its Montpellier studio for Beyond Good and Evil 2, confirming the delayed project is still in development and pointing toward planned online multiplayer features.
For anyone tracking the absolute longest development cycles in gaming history, a familiar title has just surfaced in the news cycle. Ubisoft is actively staffing up its Montpellier studio for Beyond Good and Evil 2, launching a fresh hiring wave that confirms the project is still alive despite years of uncertainty and radio silence. Fresh job listings point toward the long-delayed sci-fi prequel remaining in active production, with specific roles hinting that the team is still planning to include online multiplayer features first teased nearly a decade ago.
The project originally broke cover with a cinematic teaser all the way back in 2008, eventually claiming the crown for the most delayed AAA game of all time from Duke Nukem Forever. Through leadership changes, creative resets, and industry shifts, the game has remained a persistent ghost in Ubisoft's pipeline. Recent industry reports also suggest the team might lean into generative tools to help construct its massive planetary scope, adding another layer of modern complexity to a game that has already spanned multiple console generations.
For players who treat gaming as an ever-evolving landscape of digital worlds, this update brings a mix of cautious curiosity and fatigue. While seeing a beloved universe get a second wind is always welcome, prolonged development hell often leaves communities wondering what kind of game will actually emerge at the finish line. As Ubisoft pushes forward with hiring, we will be watching to see if this legendary title can finally turn its endless concept phase into something we can actually load up and play. Original reporting by Dominik Bošnjak over at Game Rant provides the full details on the latest listings.
