Bethesda showcased major updates for Fallout 76 and The Elder Scrolls Online at the Xbox Showcase, offering new content while fans wait years for The Elder Scrolls 6 and the next Fallout.
As reported by Polygon at polygon.com, Bethesda used the Xbox Showcase to confirm that while The Elder Scrolls 6 is actively playable in-house, the studio's next major single-player epics are still quite a ways off. With the next mainline Fallout game even further down the calendar, the studio is shifting attention back to its ongoing multiplayer pillars to keep communities engaged. The Elder Scrolls Online is gearing up for its first Thieves Guild-themed season starting July 8. This update marks the first major narrative expansion for the faction since 2016, built directly around player feedback and sending players into Daggerfall to take down the Koldane Cartel.
Meanwhile, Fallout 76 is getting a hefty free update called Infestations. This addition introduces a territory control mechanic where rival factions battle for dominance, bringing raid-style challenges, elite bosses with unique mutations, and four-star Legendary rewards into the mix. Bethesda even threw in a nod to the streaming era's massive cultural impact by featuring The Ghoul from the hit Amazon adaptation in the reveal trailer. Players logging in through June 15 can also grab a series of daily login rewards to jump-start their return to Appalachia.
For cross-platform players waiting on the horizon for Starfield updates or eventual franchise sequels, these live service expansions offer a solid bridge through the content drought. Instead of relying purely on hype for games that are years away, Bethesda is leaning into what keeps current player bases active and social. These ongoing economies and seasonal refreshes remain the bedrock of modern community retention while the heavy hitters cook in the background.
