Beam Me Up, Wizards: Fake Star Trek Magic: The Gathering Set Fools the Internet (and Maybe Google)

A card shop's attempt to boost its Google ranking by faking a Star Trek Magic: The Gathering set listing sent the internet into a frenzy, only to be revealed as a hoax. Now, we're all left wondering *why* this isn't a real thing yet!

Right, so picture this: Wizards of the Coast has been getting all adventurous, right? Final Fantasy meets Magic, Spider-Man's swinging in, and Avatar's bending elements. So, naturally, when a Star Trek crossover rumour surfaced, the internet went full warp speed. But hold your horses, because it seems like someone might've jumped the photon torpedo a little early. Earlier this month, according to Popverse, a card shop called Saga Concepts listed a 'Magic the Gathering CCG Universes Beyond Star Trek' line. We’re talking pre-release packs, booster displays – the whole shebang. Suddenly, folks thought they'd stumbled onto some top-secret intel. Makes sense, doesn't it? If those other franchises are getting the MTG treatment, why not boldly go where no card game has gone before?

MTC.cardsrealm even dug up more dirt. September 30, 2026, was the supposed launch date, alongside a 'Secrets of Strixhaven' set slated for June 23, 2026. Sounds legit...ish. Then, POOF! The listings vanished faster than a cloaked Klingon Bird-of-Prey. A Discord message (now vanished, says Popverse) revealed the truth. Apparently, Saga Concepts was trying to game Google's SEO. They hid the fake listings hoping to lure the all-knowing algorithm to their site. A bold strategy, Cotton, let's see if it pays off…

"We hid these in the site like we've done in the past for rumors to bribe Google to like our website," a Saga Concepts rep reportedly confessed. Apparently, a Nicktoons MTG set idea didn't quite take off. Ouch.

So, it was an SEO play, plain and simple. Maybe they were hoping to predict a real set down the line, or just stake their claim early. Either way, it sent the rumour mill into overdrive. Fan pages went wild, leak-hunters were on the scent, and everyone dreamt of Picard battling Nicol Bolas. (Okay, maybe that's just me).

For now, though, the pages are gone. Wizards of the Coast is due to drop the official deets about the next set, 'Edge of Eternities,' soon. So, anyone itching for a Star Trek-themed deck? It looks like you’ll have to live long and prosper… elsewhere. Maybe try some custom decks and pray WotC picks up on it? Because if you ask me, that's a crossover that deserves to happen. I mean, who *wouldn't* want to sling spells with Captain Kirk?
