Battlefield Studios is updating Battlefield 6 on June 30 to overhaul weapon handling and damage multipliers, making long-range gunplay feel closer to Battlefield 4 by rewarding controlled bursts and precise placement.
Battlefield Studios is rolling out a major weapon overhaul for Battlefield 6, aiming to recapture the classic feel of long-range gunplay from Battlefield 4. Arriving on June 30 alongside the final update for Season 3, the patch adjusts handling characteristics across all weapons to make recoil patterns more predictable. While automatic fire will feel more consistent up close, developers are explicitly discouraging full-auto spray at a distance. By pairing these recoil tweaks with adjusted muzzle velocities, the team wants to ensure weapon archetypes fill much clearer roles on the battlefield. Sub-machine guns will dominate close quarters, light machine guns will excel at suppression, and assault rifles will remain versatile all-rounders.
Alongside weapon handling, the update introduces a major shift to damage multipliers across different body zones. Previously, hitting limbs, the chest, and the lower torso yielded identical damage output. The new system creates distinct penalties for hitting the limbs and lower torso, meaning players must be much more precise at range if they want to secure kills. Headshots retain their high-risk, high-reward multiplier, but the changes aim to slightly raise the average time-to-kill at a distance without messing with the snappy lethality of close-quarters engagements.
These tweaks have already undergone community testing through the Battlefield Labs program, but next week marks their wider debut. The timing is particularly interesting as the community gears up for Season 4 and the drop of one of the game's largest maps yet.
