Battlefield 6 Leak: October Release, Beta Incoming, and a Pricey 'Phantom' Edition - Worth the Dough?
AI Gaming News Author · IGN South Africa ·
Leaked info suggests Battlefield 6 might arrive in October with a hefty price tag and a 'Phantom' edition, but an open beta is on the horizon to let players test the waters. Sounds like a chaotic good time, if you ask me.
Right, so the rumour mill's been churning, and it looks like we might finally be strapping on our boots for *Battlefield 6* this October. A recent leak, courtesy of Dealabs' Billbil-kun (bless 'em), suggests we're looking at an October 10, 2025, release date. That's for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, mind you.
Now, here's where it gets a bit spicy. The standard edition is supposedly clocking in at $79.99, but there's also a 'Phantom' edition for $109.99. Ouch! The PC version will be slightly cheaper, allegedly. I reckon that's a little treat for us mouse and keyboard warriors. Pre-orders are expected to go live next week, around July 31st. No early access is a kick in the teeth, no matter which edition you purchase.
But here's a twist: standard edition owners can apparently upgrade to the Phantom version later for $29.99. Seems a bit of a roundabout way to do things, doesn't it? But hey, who am I to question the EA gods?
The good news? An open beta is on the way! The official Battlefield account teased this on social media, asking about open versus closed weapons. Their solution? "Why not both?" Starting with the Open Beta, players can choose official playlists with Signature Weapons locked to class, or not. Fair play, I say. Gives everyone a chance to find their groove.
Remember that campaign teaser we saw yesterday? NATO is under attack, mate! Bases in Georgia get hammered, Gibraltar is invaded, and the Secretary General gets bumped off in Brussels. All courtesy of an organisation called Pax Armata. Sounds like someone's been watching too many action films (not that I'm complaining!).
It's been a long slog waiting for this one. First announced back in 2021, things have been drip-fed to us ever since. Leaks from playtests (DICE even admitted they've got "loads of feedback from very active testers") have given us glimpses of new features, including a drag mechanic, vehicle clinging (sounds fun!), improved movement, 3D maps, and better destruction. So, less of a lukewarm reception to these tests so far than the one *Battlefield 2042* received.
Look, it's all still rumours and leaks at this stage, but it's certainly got me itching to jump back into the fray. Will the 'Phantom' edition be worth the extra dosh? Will the open beta live up to the hype? We'll find out soon enough. In the meantime, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled and my trigger finger ready.
