Battlefield 6 Launches Free Trial Week Amid Ongoing Rivalry With Call of Duty

EA is running a free-to-play trial for Battlefield 6 until December 2, capitalizing on a strong PC lead over rival Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 while facing stiff competition from Arc Raiders.
The classic military shooter rivalry is heating up again as EA rolls out a free trial for Battlefield 6. Available across relevant platforms until December 2, the promotion lets curious players jump into the All Out Warfare experience without buying the game first. Battlefield general manager Byron Beede noted that the trial serves as an ideal entry point for newcomers ahead of the Winter Offensive update dropping on December 9. That upcoming patch promises a frozen Empire State map, a new ice pick weapon, and survival mechanics that force players to stay near heat sources or take damage.
The timing of this free access period is particularly pointed given the current landscape on PC. While Battlefield 6 has settled into a healthy daily peak above 200,000 players on Steam following its massive launch, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has struggled to clear the 100,000 mark on the platform. Of course, raw numbers on Steam do not tell the whole story, especially with Black Ops 7 benefiting from its inclusion on Game Pass. Even so, the engagement gap on PC gives EA plenty of bragging rights as the holiday season approaches.
At the same time, the broader shooter market refuses to become a simple two-player race. Embark Studios has captured a massive share of the player base with Arc Raiders, which continues to dominate conversations and pull in peak numbers well over 300,000 on Steam. As players look for their main multiplayer rotation for the winter break, these overlapping updates and promotional pushes will test who actually keeps the community's attention once holiday downtime kicks in.
