Banjo-Kazooie Finally Lands a Native PC Port Thanks to Modders

Modders have released Banjo: Recompiled, bringing the N64 classic to PC with high frame rate support, widescreen, Steam Deck compatibility, and built-in mod tools.
Classic platforming duo Banjo and Kazooie have finally made their way to PC through a new fan project called Banjo: Recompiled. Spearheaded by modder Wiseguy and built using the N64: Recompiled tool, this unofficial release delivers a fully native port rather than a simple emulation. Players need to supply their own legally sourced North American version one ROM files to get things running, but the payoff for that minor setup is massive for anyone wanting to revisit the Nintendo 64 era.
This release goes far beyond a basic frame rate bump. The project brings modern quality of life features including widescreen and ultrawide support, lightning fast load times, and a proper dual analog camera setup. Quality of life tweaks also fix some of the more punishing design choices of the original hardware, such as letting players keep their collected notes even if they die or leave a level. Best of all, it features full out of the box Steam Deck support and compatibility across Windows, Linux, and Mac systems.
Built in mod support opens the door for texture packs, total conversions, and custom community creations. Microsoft has largely kept the franchise dormant outside of occasional subscription service re-releases, so the community has once again stepped up to deliver what official channels refuse to touch. You can check out the source code and download the project via GitHub, with developers already teasing future updates like ray tracing support.
