Baldur's Gate 3 Players Want to Explain Their Evil (Genius) Plans – Companions Need Context, Mate!

Baldur's Gate 3 players are clamoring for a new dialogue option: the ability to explain their lies and questionable choices to their companions, who apparently aren't always keen on trusting the player's judgment (or lack thereof). Seems even the most immersive RPGs can still leave you feeling misunderstood!

Right, so Baldur's Gate 3, eh? Still got folks hooked months after release. Fair play, it's a bloody massive game with more choices than you can shake a wizard's staff at. But it seems even with all those options, players are finding themselves wanting *more*. Specifically, they want to be able to explain their dastardly (or cleverly sneaky) plans to their companions.

As Game Rant pointed out, a recent Reddit thread (isn't it always Reddit?) highlighted the frustration of lying to NPCs only to have your companions judge you for it. You know, like when you're pretending to be a loyal servant of the Absolute to get intel, and Shadowheart gives you the stink eye. Ouch.

The original poster, Knork14, put it rather succinctly: "I feel like I should be able to lie to an enemy's face without my companions assuming the worst of me." And honestly, who hasn't been there? You're roleplaying a charming rogue, weaving a web of deceit, and suddenly your goody-two-shoes paladin is all like, "Is that really necessary?" Cheers, mate, you're ruining the immersion!

Another commenter added that their previous 200 hours of being a paragon of virtue apparently count for nothing. It's like they've forgotten all those orphans you saved and kittens you rescued. One little white lie, and suddenly you're the Antichrist. Talk about holding a grudge.

Of course, implementing this kind of thing would be a massive undertaking. Baldur's Gate 3 already has more branching dialogue than a family tree after a particularly scandalous summer reunion. Adding another layer of "explain yourself" options would probably make Larian's coders weep openly. (Not that I blame them). Perhaps it's something the modding community will pick up eventually. They're a talented bunch, those modders.

Now that Larian's done with the big updates, the question is what happens next for the series. Wizards of the Coast will be choosing a new developer, which is no easy task given Larian's colossal success. A Baldur's Gate 4 is likely a long way off, but until then, at least we have mods and passionate players to keep the dream alive. And maybe, just maybe, one day we'll be able to justify our chaotic evil schemes to our companions without getting a lecture. One can only hope!
