The ambitious Baldur's Gate 3: Act Two Expansion mod is targeting a playable release by the end of 2026 after its creator expanded the scope to include new NPCs and quests.
The modding community for Larian Studios' massive RPG continues to push boundaries, with the ambitious custom campaign Baldur's Gate 3: Act Two Expansion aiming for a playable release before the end of the year. Originally slated for a 2025 launch, the project experienced a delay as its creator, SquallyDaBeanz, chose to significantly expand the scope of the project. A fresh trailer released on Reddit highlights the ongoing progress, showing off a new region situated after the Shadow-Cursed Lands where players must cross the Chionthar River to face the Absolute's army at Rivington.
While the added time has pushed the release window out of the first half of the year, the expansion is shaping up to be much more robust than initially planned. The creator noted that large sections of the mod were overhauled to introduce new NPCs, quests, and dialogue, recognizing that exploration and combat alone left the world feeling too quiet. To keep the technical side manageable without breaking the base game, the narrative choices within this custom region will not bleed over into Act Three.
This project joins a growing roster of massive community overhauls keeping the player base engaged across PC and current-gen hardware, alongside other notable efforts like the remake of the original Baldur's Gate. As modders continue to treat single-player hits as ongoing social and creative platforms, projects like this show just how far community dedication can stretch a modern RPG.
