Avantris Entertainment Shatters Crowdfunding Records With Neon Odyssey

Avantris Entertainment's Neon Odyssey has become the most-funded tabletop RPG in Kickstarter history, pulling in over $15.2 million for its massive science fantasy setting.

Tabletop roleplaying history just got rewritten. According to a recent report by Polygon, popular actual-play creators Avantris Entertainment have officially secured the crown for the most-funded tabletop RPG in Kickstarter history. Their new science fantasy project, Neon Odyssey, cleared an astonishing $15.2 million during its 30 day campaign after pulling in over $3 million on its very first day.

Instead of treating sci-fi as an afterthought, the team built a complete space opera setting called Stardust Rhapsody. Drawing heavy aesthetic cues from synthwave and hopeful cyberpunk, the massive release spans three hardcover books totaling more than 1,400 pages. It packs in over 40 new subclasses and 30 unique species tailored for the current fifth edition ruleset, giving groups plenty of fresh mechanics to explore alongside catchy promotional media that has already pulled in millions of views on YouTube.

Co-founder Mikey Gilder expressed disbelief at the community turnout in an official release, while the studio also announced that Dungeons and Dragons veteran Todd Kenreck is joining the team as director of media. For players who missed out on the initial crowdfunding window, Avantris has confirmed that the books will eventually hit their webstore for direct purchase.
