Atom RPG 2 Announced as Developers Expand the Classic Wasteland Formula

AtomTeam has announced Atom RPG 2, a turn-based tactical CRPG sequel that continues the classic Fallout-inspired formula with new survival mechanics, base building, and a race to stop a fresh apocalypse.

Fans of old school tactical roleplaying games have a new project to watch. AtomTeam has officially announced Atom RPG 2, a direct follow up to their 2018 sleeper hit that drew heavy inspiration from the classic Interplay era of Fallout. As reported by Rock Paper Shotgun, the sequel drops players back into an alternate history wasteland where the Cold War went nuclear, bringing familiar top down mechanics, turn based combat, and a mountain of hazards ranging from heavily armed raiders to mutated wildlife.

The development team, spread across Cyprus, Ukraine, and Latvia, is leaning into what made the original game and its standalone expansion Trudograd work while expanding the scope. The Steam page for the project details a living open world featuring vertical level design, tactical combat, and an interactive world map. Players will also have access to side activities like fishing, base building, and racing, all while trying to navigate faction politics and prevent a brand new apocalypse from finishing off a fragile civilization.

For players who grew up on isometric RPGs or discovered the genre through modern throwback titles, Atom RPG 2 looks to deliver the deep quest design and reactive storytelling that define the genre. While the original game found a dedicated community across PC and various other platforms, the sequel is currently confirmed for PC and Mac. You can check out the original announcement and read more details over at Rock Paper Shotgun.
