Astro Bot DLC Finally Brings Final Fantasy and Square Enix Icons to the Platformer

Astro Bot's latest update adds long-awaited Final Fantasy and Square Enix cameos, bringing Cloud, Sephiroth, 2B, and Serge to the platformer.

Astro Bot just expanded its roster with a fresh batch of challenge levels, and the update finally fixes one of the most glaring omissions from launch. When the critically acclaimed platformer arrived with over 170 PlayStation cameos, fans immediately noticed the total absence of Final Fantasy 7. Team Asobi previously pointed to publisher partnerships as the hurdle, but Square Enix has clearly changed its stance.

IGN South Africa reports that the latest update introduces Cloud Strife and Sephiroth alongside appearances from Nier: Automata and Chrono Cross. Cloud unlocks via the High Inflation challenge level, while Sephiroth waits for players who clear all five stages in the Vicious Void Galaxy. For a game that acts as a playable museum of PlayStation history, securing these icons makes the experience feel much more complete.

The update also folds in Atsu from Ghost of Yotei, keeping up Team Asobi's steady post-launch support. With 1.5 million copies sold in its first two months, Astro Bot continues to prove that platformers thrive when they lean heavily into community nostalgia and celebration of the medium.
