Assassin's Creed Shadows Gets a New Game+ and Some Much-Needed Open World Tweaks – Hallelujah!

Ubisoft's giving Assassin's Creed Shadows a New Game+ mode and some much-needed open-world improvements, including the ability to speed up time and unfog the map – because who has time for aimless wandering, eh? They're also sneakily teasing future content with those cryptic Animus glitches again, the cheeky sods!
Right, so Ubisoft's been tinkering under the hood of Assassin's Creed Shadows, and it looks like they’re throwing us a few bones (thankfully, not literally, I've had enough of those digital skeletons). According to a recent announcement reported by Rock Paper Shotgun, we’re getting a New Game+ mode and some quality-of-life updates to make roaming feudal Japan a little less…well, *arduous*.
The big kahuna? New Game+ drops on July 29th! Imagine, starting the whole revenge-soaked saga again, but this time you're a proper ninja badass from the get-go. Story progress, locations, and objective completion? Wiped clean. But, crucially, you keep your character level, gear, knowledge, and even your hideout swag. You can either dive straight back into the prologue, or skip ahead to inheriting your hideout. Handy, eh?
But wait, there's more! (I always wanted to say that.) Ubisoft’s also cranking up the level cap from 60 to 80, adding new knowledge and mastery ranks, and even dolling up our hideouts with new upgrades, especially the forge. For those who love a bit of digital busywork, there's a third shadow project with new resources and Animus-themed rewards. Honestly, sounds like a good way to burn a few hours if you are into that sort of thing.
Now, the real gold: the 'quality of life' update slated for early September. We're talking about speeding up the sun (no more waiting for nightfall to assassinate that pesky warlord!), unfogging the map by just clearing viewpoints (genius!), and uncapping the cutscene frame rate (PC players, rejoice!). Fair dinkum, it's about time!
Ubisoft is also dropping the Claws of Awaji expansion on September 16th. So, if you pre-ordered the game, you get it for free, so, like, don't buy it twice, yeah?
Now, here’s the bit that tickles my funny bone. Rock Paper Shotgun's report mentioned Ubisoft slipped in one of those sneaky Animus glitches teasing future stuff. Oh, those mischievous devils! Still, I reckon the real news is that Assassin's Creed Shadows seems to be doing alright for them. According to CEO Yves Guillemot, it’s “delivered on its expectations” with five million players since launch. Blimey, that’s a lot of digital shinobi!
Brendy Caldwell over at Rock Paper Shotgun wasn't entirely sold on the game in his review. He thought the beautiful 16th-century Japan was let down by a mediocre revenge story, but still recommended taking your time to explore the impressive open world. Sounds about right. A bit of polish here, a bit of tweaking there, and maybe Shadows can become a true Assassin’s Creed gem. Time will tell, eh?
