Funselektor and Strelka Games have announced a Steam closed alpha playtest for their upcoming off-road exploration game, Over the Hill, accompanied by a new trailer showcasing an Algeria biome.
Funselektor and Strelka Games, the creative forces behind Art of Rally, are bringing their upcoming off-roading project into the spotlight. During the recent Triple-i Initiative showcase, the studio dropped a brand new trailer for Over the Hill alongside news of an upcoming closed alpha playtest. The footage shows off a striking new Algeria biome, featuring sun-baked landscapes filled with sweeping plateaus, ancient ruins, and even fallen meteorites. Players will navigate these open environments either solo or in two-player co-op, relying on vintage 4x4 vehicles and tactical winch maneuvers to get through tough terrain.
For players looking to get hands-on experience early, the closed alpha is scheduled to run on Steam from April 24th to April 26th. Sign-ups are open now through April 16th for those wanting to test out the physics and mechanics before launch. Originally announced early last year, the game aims to capture the golden age of off-roading across real-world inspired locations ranging from steep mountain passes to sprawling valleys.
Given the team's pedigree with Art of Rally, which earned massive praise for its distinct style and poised handling mechanics, expectations are high for this spiritual successor in the driving space. While a definitive release date has not been locked in yet, the project remains on track for a launch later this year across PC, current-gen consoles, and the Nintendo Switch 2.
