Arrowhead CEO Calls GTA 6 Delay a Reprieve for Helldivers 2

Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani shares his perspective on the GTA 6 delay, calling it a temporary reprieve for Helldivers 2 while addressing broader industry impacts and recent labor concerns at Rockstar.
The gaming industry is still processing the fallout from Rockstar pushing Grand Theft Auto 6 out of its original May launch window and into November. For most developers, the shift changes release calendars across the board. Speaking on a recent episode of The Game Business YouTube channel, reported by Eurogamer, Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani described the delay as a temporary reprieve for Helldivers 2. When the juggernaut finally arrives, Jorjani noted that it will essentially blot out the sun for everyone else operating in the space.
Jorjani admitted that the extra six months gives the Helldivers 2 team some breathing room to plan updates and content drops without a major industry event looming immediately overhead. At the same time, he pointed out that niche genres often remain insulated from the chaos. Drawing on his past experience at Paradox, he highlighted how grand strategy titles do not compete for the same players or streaming audiences as mainstream blockbusters, making late-year releases much safer for specialized communities.
While the commercial impact on upcoming software remains the dominant talking point, Rockstar is facing scrutiny on other fronts as well. Over two hundred employees at Rockstar North recently signed an open letter condemning recent staff dismissals that many have labeled union busting. The controversy has already reached the UK Parliament, where local representatives are urging government ministers to support the affected workers. As the industry watches to see if the new November release date holds firm, the human cost of these massive development cycles is drawing much-needed attention from the community.
