Architects Before Earth Went Kablooey: Tchaikovsky's 'Salvation's Child' Comic Incoming!

Adrian Tchaikovsky's 'The Final Architecture' is getting a prequel comic, 'Salvation's Child', which will explore the Architect's initial invasion from a fresh perspective – think alien apocalypse meets coming-of-age story (maybe). It's hitting Comixology Originals in 2026, so mark your calendars, mates!
Right, so you know Adrian Tchaikovsky, the bloke who wrote 'The Final Architecture' series? Cracking sci-fi, that. Well, it seems someone had the bright idea – and frankly, a rather good one – to dive back into that universe, but this time in comic book form. Cheers to Comixology and Cosmic Lighthouse for making it happen! (Big thanks to IGN South Africa for the initial heads-up).
Called 'Salvation's Child,' this prequel throws us back to the time when those pesky alien Architects were busy turning Earth into, well, let's just say it wasn't a five-star holiday destination anymore. Apparently, it'll explore bits of the setting the original books only hinted at. Always wanted to know what the school system on the colony worlds was like during the Architect invasion? Maybe we'll find out! (Probably not, but a wizard can dream).
Cosmic Lighthouse, the publishing wizards behind this, are the brainchild of Doctor Who scribe Paul Cornell and Anthony Cronin. Their plan? Pair up top-tier sci-fi and fantasy writers with comic artists. Sounds like a recipe for some serious storytelling fireworks, doesn't it? (Let’s just hope it doesn't turn into a magical mishap).
Tchaikovsky himself is penning the script, while Mike Collins (another Doctor Who alum, fancy that!) is on art duties. Pippa Bowland is slinging the colours, Simon Bowland's wrangling the lettering, Steve Stone's doing the cover art, and Cornell's even chipping in with edits. It's a proper ensemble cast of creative minds.
The official blurb asks: "In Salvation's Child, the alien Architects have ripped Earth apart and threaten every colony world… but can one small child sense their approach?" Sounds intriguing, eh? I reckon it’s gonna be all about perspective and seeing the big picture (or, you know, the impending doom) from an unexpected angle.
Tchaikovsky seems chuffed as chips about it all, saying the comic gives him a chance to 'look at parts of the setting the original books didn’t get a chance to linger on.' And Paul Cornell is just as excited to be 'bring[ing] new and longtime readers of the genre more of what they love in a new medium'. Can't fault the enthusiasm, can you?
So, if you're itching for more Tchaikovsky goodness, keep your eyes peeled for 'Salvation's Child' on Comixology Originals sometime in 2026. Might be worth a look, eh?
