ARC Raiders design lead Virgil Watkins has teased significant weapon balance changes for the game's upcoming January update, focusing on adjustments to the Kettle rifle and Trigger Nades following the title's massive post-launch success.
Embark Studios is keeping the momentum going for ARC Raiders following its massive breakout success late last year. In a recent interview with GamesRadar, design lead Virgil Watkins outlined plans for the upcoming January balance update, highlighting upcoming changes to key pieces of gear like the Kettle rifle and Trigger Nades. Since its launch in October, the shooter has pulled in huge player counts across platforms and sold over 12 million copies, proving that extraction-style shooters can capture a massive mainstream audience.
A key driver behind that sustained community engagement has been Embark's aggressive post-launch support. Aside from a brief holiday pause, the studio has rolled out weekly patches addressing everything from bug fixes to major seasonal content like December's Cold Snap update, which introduced tactical winter weather mechanics. Beyond weapon tuning, the team is also looking closely at player engagement metrics, recently sharing participation numbers for the first optional wipe and detailing plans to incentivize long term progression through Expeditions.
For players invested in the game's ongoing economy and meta, these frequent tweaks show a developer actively listening to the community. Balancing high stakes multiplayer sandboxes is always tricky, but transparent communication from the design team goes a long way in keeping competitive players on board. As the January update approaches, players should expect significant shifts in weapon meta that will require new loadout strategies on the ground.
