Arc Raiders Is Testing a PvE Mode Because Players Are Just Too Nice

Embark Studios is launching a temporary PvE test for Arc Raiders to accommodate a surprisingly friendly community that prefers cooperation over player-versus-player combat.

Embark Studios is responding to a surprising trend in Arc Raiders by launching a dedicated player-versus-environment test. According to a recent Eurogamer report by Connor Makar, executive producer Aleksander Gröndal shared that roughly 37 percent of the playerbase consistently chooses a collaborative approach over combat, outnumbering the purely PvP-focused crowd. Even though the game was built as a ruthless extraction shooter, players are turning it into a cooperative experience. The upcoming test runs from October 13 to October 20 and lets players opt into a strictly PvE queue for solo, duo, and trio runs.

This temporary shift comes with a few caveats to keep the game balanced. Because players will not face the constant threat of rival human squads, certain high-tension map conditions like night raids and hidden bunkers will be disabled. Furthermore, loot values will be lowered to reflect the reduced danger, allowing developers to monitor the wider in-game economy without breaking digital asset values. Gröndal was clear that this test does not guarantee a permanent PvE mode, but it does show that the studio is seriously listening to its community.

This development highlights a fascinating tension in modern multiplayer design, especially as extraction shooters continue to grapple with hyper-competitive metas. While hardcore PvP fans often drive the streaming and creator numbers on platforms like Twitch and YouTube, everyday players frequently crave lower-stress social spaces to unwind with friends. If Embark eventually makes this cooperative option permanent, it could set a new precedent for how extraction games handle split playerbases without fragmenting matchmaking times or ruining the core economy.
