Arc Raiders Design Hints That Deadly Shredder Drones Are Leaving Stella Montis

Embark Studios has confirmed that the deadly Shredder enemies currently trapped inside the Stella Montis facility in Arc Raiders will soon expand to other maps, bringing their dangerous shrapnel attacks to new environments.

Embark Studios is planning to expand the hunting grounds of one of Arc Raiders' most intimidating mechanical threats. Ever since the North Line update arrived last November, the hovering, shrapnel-spewing menace known as the Shredder has been strictly confined to the winding corridors and tight interior spaces of the Stella Montis facility. Players dealing with the game's claustrophobic environments have had to master close-quarters evasion to avoid being shredded into pieces, but that localized containment is about to change.

In a recent interview with GamesRadar covered by Rock Paper Shotgun, Arc Raiders design lead Virgil Watkins noted that the floating mechanical nuisances will eventually figure out how to leave the mountain facility and infiltrate other maps. While enclosed spaces currently maximize the danger of their explosive shrapnel waves, translating these heavily armored units to more open environments introduces entirely new tactical problems for extraction squads. A Shredder lingering in a tight transit station or narrow objective point could easily block off vital retreat routes when players are trying to escape danger.

The real test of player adaptability will come when these drones begin combining forces with exterior threats like the Bombardier. If a Shredder acts as an effective indoor area-denial tool while heavy artillery pummels the open ground outside, standard escape routes and cover strategies will need a complete rethink. Embark has not yet provided a firm release timeline for the expansion of the Shredder roster, giving players a bit more time to stock up on heavy shields and fine-tune their loadouts before the metallic horde breaks containment across the wider world of Arc Raiders.
