Apex Legends Teams Up With Street Fighter 6 for a Melee Focused Crossover Event

Apex Legends is launching a crossover event with Street Fighter 6 that introduces a melee focused game mode, iconic character skins, and special abilities inspired by the classic fighting series.

Respawn Entertainment is shaking up the Outlands by bringing Capcom into the battle royale arena. According to Polygon, the upcoming Apex Legends vs Street Fighter 6 crossover begins on September 22 and runs through October 13, arriving just ahead of the fighting game franchise hitting the big screen. The event introduces a brand new mode called Wildcard, which trades gunplay for pure hand to hand combat on a remixed version of the Olympus map. Players can drop in as iconic World Warriors like Ryu, Chun Li, Akuma, and Dhalsim, collecting coins to fill a Fighter Gauge and unleash classic moves like Hadokens and Shoryukens.

Alongside the playable fighters, the event delivers eight new crossover skins priced at 2,150 Apex Coins each. Legends like Sparrow, Alter, Bangalore, and Gibraltar are getting visual makeovers inspired by the Capcom roster. Players can also earn an in-game currency called Zenny to unlock additional cosmetic rewards, including an Epic Lifeline skin styled after Li Fen, weapon skins, and skydive emotes.

For a community used to standard battle royale gunfights, shifting the meta toward pure melee brawling offers a refreshing change of pace. Limited time modes that completely alter core gameplay mechanics usually succeed by giving squads a reason to jump back in with lower stakes and high energy. As digital economies and crossover events continue to drive engagement across live service games, this collaboration bridges two major fanbases just as the franchise expands into new media.
