Apex Legends Devs Say Street Fighter 6 Collab Forced Them to Build the Thickest Thighs in the Game's History

Apex Legends developers reveal that their upcoming Street Fighter 6 crossover forced them to push character models to their muscular limits, resulting in the thickest thighs in the game's history.
Cross-over events usually rely on simple palette swaps, but Respawn Entertainment had to literally break their own character molds for the upcoming Apex Legends and Street Fighter 6 collaboration. Speaking in a recent media briefing reported by IGN South Africa, Apex art director Alisa Rastorgueva explained that translating Capcom's iconic martial artists into the Outlands required pushing the game's semi-realistic character models well past their usual limits. Because fighters like Ryu, Chun-Li, and Akuma are defined by exaggerated muscle mass and powerful silhouettes, the development team had to give their Legends some of the thickest thighs and most pronounced muscle definitions ever seen in the game.
Matching the proportions of a fighting game inside a fast-paced battle royale shooter proved to be a unique design hurdle. Senior technical game designer Chris Ruvolo noted that the team also had to carefully curate the roster to fit standard shooter mechanics. While adding a pure grappler like Zangief would be a dream for fighting fans, the team focused on characters with projectile abilities and area of effect attacks that translate naturally to first-person combat. The resulting event lineup pairs specific Legends with iconic fighters, featuring everything from custom weapon skins and a themed point of interest to a brand-new Wildcard Takeover mode complete with destructible cars and Hadoukens.
Collaborations of this scale highlight how live-service games maintain player engagement through unexpected cultural crossovers. Rather than just dropping standard cosmetics into the shop, modern events require deep technical adaptation to respect both source materials while keeping gameplay balanced. Fans looking to see these muscular new character models in action can jump into the update when it officially launches on September 22.
