Ape Escape Rumored to Make a Comeback According to Industry Insider

Industry rumors suggest a new Ape Escape game is in development at an unknown studio, marking a potential return for the classic PlayStation platformer franchise after more than a decade of dormancy.

Classic platformer fans might finally get their wish, as rumors suggest that a brand-new Ape Escape game is in development. Industry insider NateTheHate recently hinted at the project on ResetEra while discussing upcoming PlayStation releases, responding to inquiries with knowing remarks about Sony looking to bring back dormant franchises.

While details remain scarce, the insider clarified a few things about who is not behind the project. Team Asobi, the studio behind Astro Bot, is reportedly not developing the game, despite recently paying homage to the primate-collecting series in their own work. Bandai Namco is also not currently attached to the project, leaving the identity of the developer entirely unknown for now.

The original Ape Escape launched way back in 1999 and won over players with its innovative use of the PS1 DualShock analog sticks. With no mainline entries since 2010, the franchise has been dormant for over a decade, though player nostalgia for classic platformers remains high. As always, players should treat these rumors with caution until Sony makes an official announcement.
