Anne Hathaway's critically acclaimed psychological thriller Mother Mary, directed by David Lowery, is now available to stream on HBO Max following its theatrical run.
Anne Hathaway has enjoyed a massive year across blockbusters, but one of her most compelling performances recently flew under the radar. Polygon reports that Mother Mary, the latest psychological thriller from director David Lowery, is finally making its streaming debut on HBO Max following a quiet theatrical run earlier this year.
The film stars Hathaway as a pop icon on the verge of a major comeback who suffers an emotional breakdown and seeks refuge with her former costume designer and close friend, played by Michaela Coel. Rather than a standard pop industry drama, Lowery weaves a deeply tactile ghost story that explores the heavy emotional tolls of creative partnerships, isolation, and messy personal histories.
Lowery leans into practical effects and striking visual metaphors, including a haunting red apparition that shifts forms between fabrics and light. For viewers looking to see Hathaway step away from traditional blockbuster fare and into a tense, artistic character study, Mother Mary offers one of the strongest performances of her current career, and it is available to stream right now.
