Amazon's God of War Series Finds Its Kratos and Atreus

Amazon Prime Video's upcoming God of War series has cast Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus, with a 2027 premiere window on the horizon.

Amazon Prime Video is building out a massive ensemble for its upcoming adaptation of God of War. According to a recent report by Polygon, the series has officially locked in its lead roles. Ryan Hurst, widely known for his work on Sons of Anarchy, will step into the boots of Kratos. Meanwhile, newcomer Callum Vinson will take on the crucial role of his son, Atreus. The production team is wasting no time rounding out the rest of the Norse pantheon either, adding heavy hitters to bring the 2018 PlayStation epic to life.

The creative team behind the camera brings plenty of prestige-TV pedigree to the project. Ronald D. Moore of For All Mankind and Battlestar Galactica is running the show, while Frederick E.O. Toye, fresh off directing duties on Fallout and Shogun, is set to direct the opening two episodes. Recent casting updates have also confirmed Ed Skrein as the primary antagonist Baldur, alongside Louis Cunningham as Modi, Ben Chapple as Magni, Evelyn Miller as Gna, and Island Austin as Thrud, filling out a robust roster for the upcoming streaming adaptation.

For players who spent hundreds of hours guiding the father-son duo through the Nine Realms, a live-action transition always carries a mix of excitement and skepticism. Adapting a narrative-driven masterpiece with such heavy emotional beats and intense set pieces is a tall order. However, the strength of the creative roster suggests Amazon is treating the source material with the respect the community expects. Filming is currently underway, with the series slated to premiere on Prime Video in 2027. Original reporting and cast details can be found over at Polygon.
