Amazon has revealed the first look at Ryan Hurst as Kratos in its upcoming God of War series, featuring a recreation of the 2018 game's opening hunting scene with co-star Callum Vinson as Atreus.
Amazon has officially pulled back the curtain on its upcoming God of War adaptation, sharing a first look at Ryan Hurst suited up as the Ghost of Sparta. In the promotional image posted to X by Eurogamer, Hurst appears shirtless and leaning forward while guiding his son Atreus, played by Callum Vinson, through a hunting lesson. The visual pulls straight from the opening beats of Santa Monica Studio's 2018 franchise reboot, instantly establishing the grounded, character focused tone the series is aiming for.
Hurst is no stranger to the Nine Realms, having previously earned a BAFTA nomination for his stellar performance as Thor in God of War Ragnarok. He will be joined by Callum Vinson as Atreus alongside a stacked supporting cast. Ed Skrein is stepping into the role of Baldur, Olafur Darri Olafsson is taking on the mantle of Thor, and screen veteran Mandy Patinkin is set to portray the Allfather himself, Odin. Behind the camera, Shogun director Frederik E.O. Toye will helm the first two episodes to set the visual and narrative standard.
While Amazon has not yet given the series a firm release window, the studio clearly has massive confidence in the project. A second season has already been greenlit before the premiere of the first. As gaming adaptations continue to find their footing across streaming platforms, this cast and creative team suggest Amazon is treating the source material with the weight it demands.
