Amazon Studios has officially ordered a TV series adaptation of Rebecca Yarros' best-selling romantasy novel Fourth Wing, featuring a heavy-hitting creative team including showrunner Meredith Averill and executive producer Michael B. Jordan.
Prime Video is doubling down on massive fantasy adaptations, officially locking in a series order for Fourth Wing. Based on Rebecca Yarros best-selling novel, the project adapts the massive romantasy phenomenon that has dominated bookshelves and community book clubs alike. The story follows Violet Sorrengail as she enters the brutal Basgiath War College to train as a dragon rider, where graduation is the only thing standing between cadets and certain death.
Development on the adaptation has been quietly moving forward since late 2023, but Amazon confirmed the official series order during its recent Upfronts presentation. The creative team brings together serious industry talent, with Wednesday season two executive producer Meredith Averill stepping in as showrunner. She will be joined by author Rebecca Yarros, Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy, and Michael B. Jordan through his Outlier Society production company, pointing to a high-budget and carefully managed translation of the source material.
While fans are still processing the end of Amazon's Wheel of Time adaptation, this new venture taps directly into a different, highly engaged corner of modern fandom. Romantasy has evolved into a powerhouse genre with massive digital communities across social media platforms, making this transition to streaming a natural next step. Production details and a release window remain under wraps for now, but the sheer scale of the attached creative team signals that Prime Video is treating this as a tentpole franchise for the platform.
