Adam Scott stars as a grieving novelist battling local folklore and his own past in the official trailer for Damian McCarthy horror film Hokum, heading to theaters this May.
Horror fans have a new title to add to their spring watchlists. IGN South Africa recently shared the official trailer for Hokum, an upcoming feature film directed by Damian McCarthy. The project stars Adam Scott as Ohm Bauman, a novelist who retreats to a remote inn to scatter his parents ashes. What should be a quiet trip turns into a psychological nightmare as he becomes obsessed with local lore about a witch haunting the property honeymoon suite.
As disturbing visions pile up alongside a mysterious disappearance, Bauman is forced to confront unresolved trauma from his own past. McCarthy has built a strong reputation in the modern horror space for atmospheric tension and deliberate pacing. This project looks to continue that streak by leaning heavily on isolation and dread rather than cheap jump scares.
For players and creators who love winding down with a solid cinematic thriller after a long streaming session, Hokum is scheduled to open exclusively in theaters on May 1, 2026. You can check out the full official trailer over at IGN South Africa to get a better look at the eerie atmosphere McCarthy is cooking up.
